Ana Julia Velez Rueda

I am a CONICET-funded postdoc and professor at the National University of Quilmes. I have co-founded the Women in Bioinformatics & Data Science LA, a Latin American Organization aiming at promoting and making visible the research carried out by women in these fields.

About Me

I'm argentinian, graduated in Biochemie at the UNLP and I have a doctoral degree in Computational Biology from the UNQ. My current research is focused on understanding the evolutionary and structural patterns involved in protein promiscuity.

In my PhD at the Structural Bioinformatics Group, I have developed the ProtMiscuity a database of catalytic promiscuous proteins obtained through the implementation of web-scraping, text-mining and manual curation over more than 500 scientific publications.

As a result of my passion for teaching, I have created Bioinformatics Goes to School a project which promotes the usage of Bioinformatics at high school, for learning Biology.
